Top Things To Do While Visiting Luxor

During my trip to Luxor — the site of the ancient Thebes — I realized there were so many attractions that I couldn’t explore even a fraction of its wonders. And so, I’ve handpicked my top things to do (and famous favorites), so you know exactly what to prioritize if confused:

  • Visit the sprawling complex of Karnak (built 2000 years ago!) and marvel at the intricate decorations of Luxor Temple on the East Bank
  • Explore Pharaohs’ tombs and witness wall decor painted 4000 years ago at the Valley of the Kings
  • Experience Classical Egyptian architecture at the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
  • Take a cruise on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan/Cairo and enjoy stunning vistas
  • Go balloon riding to snag aerial views of the historic city
  • Visit the Habu and Seti temples — sites of architectural and artistic importance
  • Purchase art and crafts at Sandouk, Egyptian jewelry and towels at Habiba, and traditional clothes at Bazaar Al Ayam

Places To Stay

To make the most of your stay, you also need great accommodation. During my trip, I stayed at Malkata House located right in the heart of Luxor City. It was well priced, but its private chef, bars, roof top view, and luxurious rooms made every penny worth it!

Insider Tips Before Visiting Luxor

First and foremost, remember that the best time for visiting Luxor is between October and April, when the weather is pleasant.

Also, tourists are crazy about the historical attractions, so they can get very busy during the day. If you’re someone who hates the crowds, be sure to visit early in the morning for a secluded experience. Plus, almost all attractions have an entrance fee (usually between $2 and $10), so you should have some money on hand before exploring.
